Rainbow was reactivated by a politician Aurelia Arnot in order to fight the threat of an organization known as the white mask who begin terrorising the world. There are five countries CTU join together to form rainbow, that is America (FBI SWAT), Germany (GSG-9), France (GIGN), Russia (Spetsnaz), and United Kingdom (SAS). From that point onward the member of rainbow begin to expand, but the lore does not expand.
Year one is started in 2016 where Ubisoft starting to adding eight new operators.
As the first season of rainbow bringing two new operators from JTF2 Canda and a new maps. Starting with an attacker named Sébastien "Buck" Côté and a defender named Tina Lin "Frost" Tsang, and the new map named "Yacht".
Operation Dust Line was released on May 10, 2016 which bringing two new operators from Navy Seal America and a new map, an attacker name Craig "Blackbeard" Jenson and a defender name Meghan J. "Valkyrie" Castellano and a map called "Border"
Operation Skull Rain was released on August 2, 2016 which bringing two new operators from BOPE Brazil and a new map, an attacker name Vicente "Capitão" Souza and a defender name Taina "Caveira" Pereira and a map called "Favela".
Operation Red Crow was released on November 17, 2016 which bring two new operators from SAT Japan, new map, and a map reworke an attacker name Yumiko Imagawa (Japanese: 今川 由美子[1], Imagawa Yumiko), codenamed Hibana and a defender name Masaru Enatsu (Japanese: 江夏 優[1], Enatsu Masaru), codenamed Echo, a map called "Skyscrapper" and a map rework "Barlett University".
Year two is started in 2017, there are still no new update on the lore while six new operators joining team rainbow.
Operation Velvet Shell was released on February 7, 2017, which bringing two new operators from GEO Spain and a new map, an attacker name Ryad "Jackal" Ramírez Al-Hassar and a defender name Dr. Elena María Álvarez codenamed Mira, and a map called "Coastline".
Operation Health was released on June 7, 2017 unlike seasons before this season does not releasing new operators and maps, this season focusing on fixing the game bugs, glitches, and issues. This include new matchmaking system and servers.
Operation Blood Orchid was released on August 29, 2017 which bringing not two but three new operators, where two are from SDU Hong Kong, one from GROM Poland, and a new map, an attacker name Siu Mei Lin (Chinese: 蕭美蓮[1]), codenamed Ying, and defenders name Liu Tze Long (Chinese: 廖子朗[1]), codenamed Lesion and Elżbieta "Ela" Bosak while the map called "Theme Park".
Operation White Noise was released on November 20, 2017 as the final season of year two, similar to Operation Blood Orchid instead of release two new operators, Ubisoft release three new operators, two are from 707th SMB South Korea and also from GROM Poland, attackers name Grace Nam (Hangeul: 남은혜, Nam Eun Hye), codenamed Dokkaebi, Zofia Bosak which is Operator Ela older sister, a map called "Tower"
Year three is started in 2018, during the this time some piece of the lore has been update but only for the first season, and there are eight new operators joining team rainbow.
Operation Chimera was released on March 6, 2018, which bringing two new operators from two different countries CTU that are already join rainbow those are France (GIGN), and Russia (Spetsnaz). Unlike other operators this unit specialize on fighting chemical, biological, radioactive, and nuclear threat, hence the codename CBRN threat unit. Also, unlike the previous operation this seasons introducing two new attackers names Olivier "Lion" Flament from GIGN France and Lera "Finka" Melnikova (Belarusian: Лера Мельнікава) from Belarus, and unfortunely there is no new map. But for the first time, Ubisoft has introduce a limited time event called Outbreak, this event does not related to lore.
Operation Para Bellum was released on June 7, 2018 during this season bringing two new defenders from GIS Italy, new map, and for the release of new secondary gadget. Two new defenders name Aria "Alibi" de Luca from Libya, and Adriano "Maestro" Martello. New gadget is a bullet proof camera that can be placed on the wall, and the new map called "Villa".
Operation Grim Sky was released on September 4, 2018, returning to releasing one attacker and defender, this operation is unique cause it does not release new map and creating a new CTU. starting with an attacker Erik "Maverick" Thorn from Delat force America and a first defender that is shield operator Morowa "Clash" Evans from Metropolian Police Service England, both operators recruited to the CTU that is belong to rainbow, The Urban Tactical Response Team, codenamed Grim Sky (GSUTR) which operate on dense urban environment. while there is no new map, but this operation reworking one of existing map called "Hereford Base".
Operation Wind Bastion was released on December 4, 2018 as the final season of year three, this season the lore has been update, although it is not shown in the trailer, but the white mask has been defeated by rainbow and their bank account has been cease. relseasing both attacker and defender from same CTU GIGR Morocco, and new map. Attacker name Sanaa El Maktoub (Arabic: سناء المكتوب), codename Nomad and defender name Jalal El Fassi (Arabic: جلال الفاسي), codenamed Kaid, and new map called "Fortress"
After the defeat of white mask, Aurelia got an offer to become US secretary of state underneath of President baldwin, and rainbow has a new director under Dr. Harishva "Harry" Pandey.
Harry becoming the new director of team rainbow, Harry wishes for the team to operate more efficient and be ready for every kind of situation. He decided to decentralized the team and create multiple facilities around the world, with the purpose for the operators to get along and train one another.
Operation Burnt Horizon was released on March 6, 2019, as start of the year Burnt Horizon introducing two new operators from SASR Australia and a new map. Starting with an attacker named Tori Tallyo Fairous, codenamed Gridlock and a defender named Max Goose, codenamed Mozzie, and a new map called "Outback".
Operation Phantom Sight was released on June 11, 2019 during this season instead of two operators from same nation bringing two diffrent operators from seperate nation and two seperate CTU. An attacker named Karina Gaarddhøje, codenamed Nøkk from Jaeger Corps and a defender named Collinn McKinley, codenamed Warden from United State Secret Service. Unfortunely, there are no new map but only rework of exsiting map, Kafe Dostoyevsky Rework.
Operation Ember Rise was released on September 11, 2019, similar like Phantom Sight this operation bringing two operatos from Latin America countries, an attacker from Peru named Azucena Rocío Quispe, codenamed Amaru part of APCA CTU and a defender from Mexico named César Ruiz Hernández, codenamed Goyo as part FES CTU. Just like Phantom Sight the reworking exsiting map which this time on the map called Kanal.
Operation Shifting Tide was released on December 3, 2019. Adding two new operators from two seperate countries, but part of fictional group called Night Haven which is a private military group, an attacker from India named Jaimini Kalimohan Shah (Hindi: जैमिनी कलिमोहन शाह), codenamed Kali and a defender from Kenya named Ngũgĩ Muchoki Furaha, codenamed Wamai, and reworking Theme Park as one of the exsiting map.
During this operation there has been an update on the lore, Harry utilzing the money that was being cease from The White Mask account to hire the private military organization called the Night Haven, with the main reason to ensure that enemy organization did not hire them against rainbow and to keep a closer look on them,
Year five is started in 2020, there are a lot of new update on the lore begin to develop more and the gameplay improvement, with the number of operators that are being added reduce to six only.
The siege invitational 2020 was an in-game event adding new cosmetic and limited time map, while in the lore is the first annual Tournament of Champion as public training exercises for the counter terrorism unit accross the globe and to test all operatos within rainbow what have they learn from the program.
Operation Void Edge was released on March 10th, 2020, which bringing two new operators from two different countries and CTU with a map rework, an attacker named Nienke "Iana" Meijer from REU Netherland and a defender named Saif Al Hadid (Arabic: سيف الحديد), codenamed Oryx from GIGR (unofficailly) Jordan, and a map called "Oregon".
Operation Steel Wave was released on June 16, 2020, similar with previous operation bringing an attacker from Night Haven named Håvard "Ace" Haugland from Norway and a defender named Thandiwe "Melusi" Ndlovu from ITF South Africa, and reworking exisiting map called "House". There is a new secondary gadget called proximity alarm which can attach to all type of surface.
Operation Shadow Legacy was released on September 10, 2020, Unfortunely this operation the beginning of Ubisoft decision to bring only one operator, the new operator named Samuel Leo "Sam" Fisher, codenamed Zero from United State ROS, and rework for map called "Chalet". But there is another rework for one of Spetsnaz operator named Alexsandr Senaviev (Russian: Александр Сенавьев, tr. Aleksandr Senav'yev), codenamed Tachanka (Тачанка). Sam Fisher or codenamed Zero is from another game of Ubisoft called splinter cell, in rainbow six siege Sam was on the run and hiding in rainbow under the codenamed Zero, and play role as instructor in the program.
Operation Neon Dawn was released on December 1, 2020 as the final season of year five, by bringing an defender from Night Haven named Apha "Aruni" Tawanroong (Thai: อาภา ตะวันรุ่ง) from Thailand, and map rework for "Skyscrapper". Aruni has a history with one of FBI SWAT operator named Jordan "Thermite" Trace, they are old friend and in an operation together in Bangkok and it went south causing Thermite got burned and Aruni lost her limps.
Year six is started in 2021, the lore are continue to develop and also the gameplay, with number of operators that are being added reduce to four only.
The siege invitational 2021 similar to the previous event with new maps and cosmetic. In the lore the tournament of champion divided into four team captaions Vicente "Capitão" Souza, Eliza "Ash" Cohen, Elena "Mira" Álvarez, and Chul Kyung Hwa (Hangeul: 화철경, Hwa Cheol Gyeong), codenamed Vigil. Harry have decided to added Jaimini Kalimohan Shah, codenamed Kali to Ash team with hope that it will improve their relation since both disliking each other.
Ubisoft added a comic to fill the lore story outisde the gameplay and video and the comic book title six invitational, within the comic showing the Night Haven training and bonding with some member of team rainbow.
At the final match in the tournament Team Ash against Team Mira, Ash and Kali seems to still not getting along pretty well, operator Aruni as part of team Mira informing her team leader that Kali dislike taking order and it is consider as advantage team Mira has agains team Ash. During the match Ash and Dokkaebi was pinned down by Mira and her team, Kali took an opportunity to use Dokkaebi as bait and manage to took down two of the opponents and Ash took one down. Kali took down the last opponent and win the tournament, but wounded Ash right ear, despite the win Ash was already at her limit and confront Kali about if the scenario was real she would have use Ash and Dokkaebi as life bait and getting them killed, Kali respond without care and consider this just a game hence making Ash snap and punch her in the face. From this point onward many operators got divided and lore are getting intense.
Crimson Heist March 16, 2021, for the first time this season does not use the work operation and this season bringing one new operator, an attacker from Argentina Santiago "Flores" Lucero who is not part of any CTU, attacker secondary gadget a pocket granade launcher to destroy defender gadget and breach barricade (Gonne-6) ,and rework to existing map called "Border". Florse was a master thief who was offer asylum by Ash back in 2016 because he was hunted by crimelord for stealing their money, In early 2021 Ash sent Miles "Castle" Campbell and César "Goyo" Hernándezwhich to recruited Flores with a task for him. Within the comic titled Crimson Heist
North Star was released on June 14, 2021, a defender from STAR-NET Aviation Canada named Mina "Thunderbird" Sky, and map rework called "Favela". During the recruitment she was attacked and can be seen in one of the comic titled North Star
Crystal Guard was released on September 7, 2021, an attacker from Night Haven named Anja Katarina "Osa" Janković from Croatia, and small rework on the exisiting maps such as Coast line, Clubhouse, and Bank. Osa is reveal to be the head of Quantum Concept Robotics which in charge to developing the night haven tech, it is also reveal that the reason why all night haven operators that joining rainbow, so that Kali could recruited operators from rainbow to night haven by inviting some rainbow operators to night haven base to tryout their tech. a comic was release about Osa from Ubisoft titled Crystal Guard
High Calibre was released on November 30, 2021. as final season for Year 6 releasing a defender from Garda ERU Ireland named Brianna "Thorn" Skehan, and a map rework "Outback". Thorn is an old friend of Seamus "Sledge" Cowden and joining team Caveira for SI 2022, but there is comic showing Caveira and Thorn hangout titled High Calibre
Year seven started in 2022, the lore of rainbow getting interesting where there will be diving deeper into rainbow and getting personal between rainbow operators.
Although there are no trailer for SI 2022, but the team captains named are Eliza “Ash” Cohen, Jaimini Kalimohan “Kali” Shah, Taina “Caveira” Pereira, and Sanaa “Nomad” El Maktoub.
The night haven decided to leave team rainbow and bringing couple of operators with them, one of the opetaor is Elżbieta "Ela" Bosak.
Harry expected that night haven will leave team rainbow bringing other operators with them besides Ela there are also Jack "Pulse" Estrada, Monika "IQ" Weiss, James Porter codenamed "Smoke", and Lera "Finka" Melnikova. At the same time Harry has found four captains to form their own team, they are Gustave "Doc" Kateb, Jordan Trace codenamed "Thermite", Taina "Caveira" Pereira, and Yumiko Imagawa codenamed "Hibana".
Demon veil was releasedMarch 16, 2021, bringing a defender named Kana "Azami" Fujiwara (Japanese: 藤原加奈, Fujiwara Kana) from Japan for the first time adding a new map named "Emerald Plain", and new game mode Team Death Match (TDM). Azami was a police officer in Japan who got fired and working as a bodyguard and was hired by Masayuki Yahata. Azami and Yahata grow to be a good friend. During their stroll through street market in Japan they were ambush by assassins Azami fought back, sadly it was not good enough and it cost Yahata`s life. Enraged and wanted to avenge Azami contacted her old friend Yumiko "hibana" Imagawa and showed her a bullet case with QCR brand on it. The investigation of Yahata`s death continue with the comic titled Demon Veil. Within the comic it is reveal how some operators react to some members of team rainbow joining night have such as, Mike "Thatcher" Baker opinion on Smoke joining night haven.
Operation Vector Glare was released on June 14, 2022, returning to operation to the name of the season, this operation releasing an attacker from SFG Belgium named Néon Ngoma Mutombo, codenamed Sens, and new map for TDM "Close Quarter". This season reveal the team that was lead by Doc where Sens joining in codenamed Wolf Guard, and currently they are going after the architect that belong to the night haven to infiltrate their base to find out about night haven involvement with Yahata`s death. After the rescue, it is reveal in the next comic titled Vector Glare show casing the effort to infiltrate night haven.
Operation Brutal Swarm was released on September 6, 2022, an attacker from Night Haven named Charlie Tho “Grim” Keng Boon from Croatia, adding new map from previous SI called "Stadium Bravo", and small addition to ranked playlist. Night haven discover that QCR is being infilitrated by unknown enemy and they send Grim and other operators including James "Smoke" Porter, Grim decided to go in alone and getting into close combat with Karina "Nøkk" Gaarddhøje. Grim got the upper hand, but Nøkk got an escape plan in place by detonating a charge on the wall and escape with the list of QCR shipment. Afterward, Kali discover that rainbow infiltrate the QCR and assign Grim to find who was the operator that escape, as can be seen in the comic titled Brutal Swarm.
Operation solar raid was released on December 6th, 2022. as final season for Year 7 releasing a defender from AFEAU Colombia named Ana "Solis" Valentina Díaz, and a new map called "Nighthave Lab". During this season it is reveal the next squad that is lead by Caveira codenamed "Ghosteye" and Solis having a hard time in her training with Ghosteye as can be seen in comic titled Solar Raid. Later on, it is discover that night haven does not responsible for Yahata`s death and their merchendise has been stolen, Ghosteye confront Kali and ensuring that night haven staying out.
Year eight started in 2023, the lore of rainbow continue revealing their squad with only two squad left need to be revealed and revelation of who responsible for all this skirmish and chaos that is being caused.
Although there are no trailer for SI 2023, but it is reveal that the person who is responsible for all of trouble rainbow suffered under the named "Deimos" he showed Harry a live feed from Thermite point of view retriving night haven stolen merchandise assisted with Caveira, Sledge, Zofia, and Ash. Unfortunely, it was trap set-up by Deimos and he said that Harry has disgrace his unit, Harry than stated that it is their unit and he is there only to support them and guide them. Harry in final act of insult to Deimos telling him that he find him boring before got shot and killed by Deimos. Deimos has stated that he is planning to kill all members of team rainbow.
Operation Commanding Force was released March 7th, 2023, bringing an attacker from COT Brazil Nayara "Brava" Cardoso and an improvement to gameplay. In this season another squad of rainbow has been reveal named "ViperStrike" and it is being led by Hibana. In lore Brava is Capitão cousin both join ViperStrike together with Hibana they are hunting down Deimos who is currently in the plane, both Hibana, Capitão, and Brava almost had him, but he managed to escape. But despite their faliure they manage to hurt him financially. Afterward Brava visited the hospital in Hereford where it is reveal that Thermite and other operators who was set-up by Deimos are injured and Ash is in coma. Commanding Force. In the end of the comic Brava mention someone which going to be reveal in the next season.
Operation Dread Factor was released on May 30th, 2023, it is not a surprised that the last squad being led by Thermite and the squad named "Red Hammer", releasing a defender from Sweden Emil "Fenrir" Svensson. Fenrir used to work for Deimos, not by choice since he does not have much choice, he was an outcast to his family and he got discharge from military because of his wishes to develop a technology to alter soldier emotion. Deimos interested on Fenrir work decided to funding and providing him with facility, but Fenrir and Deimos has different intention with one wishes to make a world a better place while the other just wanna unleashed chaos on the world. Fenrir found out the hard way by seeing Deimos using his invention on his colleague and witnessed their demise. After seeing Deimos deception, Fenrir fled and joining Red Hammer. Fenrir and Red Hammer trying to intercept Deimos plan in comic titled Dread Factor.
